Sophia biker succumbs in Brickdam collision

A 34-year-old Sophia motorcyclist died early yesterday morning following a collision at the intersection of Brickdam and Brummel Place, Georgetown.

Dead is Nigel Harvey of Lot 731 ‘C’ Field, Sophia, Georgetown. Police reported that the fatal accident occurred around 6.35 am and involved a minibus, BWW 693, owned and driven by Keith Texeira-Livingstone, a 70-year-old resident of Lodge Housing Scheme, Georgetown, and motorcycle, CL 8444, owned and ridden by Harvey. The driver of the minibus remains in custody assisting with investigations.

Investigations revealed that the driver of the minibus was proceeding north along Brummel Place, whilst the motorcycle was proceeding west along Brickdam. The traffic lights erected at the intersection were not in working order at the time and both drivers failed to stop resulting in a collision.

Harvey was flung into the air and fell on the roadway. The motorcyclist was picked up by emergency medical technicians (EMTs) in an unconscious condition and transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body is currently at the hospital’s mortuary where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
