What has happened to the Engineers Bill?

Dear Editor,

Reference is made to the article, Stabroek News, April 3, 2023 headlined, ‘Revision of draft Engineers Bill complete, Nandlall says – to be laid in Parliament soon’.

The article, inter alia, highlighted, ‘Its intent was to create the legislative framework for the profession of engineering in accordance with the CARIFORUM-EU Economic Partnership Agreement which was signed by CARIFORM countries, including Guyana and the European Union in 2008. This Bill is therefore long overdue and in its protracted incubatory stage it has received inputs from various outstanding Guyanese over the years. The drafting of the bill is now completed, he added, while pointing out that following the committee’s approval, it will be sent to Parliament’.

Editor, it is a week short of one year since your article and nearly sixteen years from the referenced year 2008.

Can an update on this matter be provided please by either the Hon. Attorney General, Anil Nandlall  or the Hon. Minister Juan Edghill?

Yours sincerely,

Abraham David
