The first batch of families awarded house lots in Le Ressouvenir Housing Development, East Coast Demerara were able to identify them on Wednesday in the presence of Minister of Housing and Water Collin Croal.

According to a release from the Central Housing & Planning Authority (CH&PA), the families, who are predominantly middle and moderate-income allottees, received their allocations in December 2022. Following the allocations, the Housing Ministry undertook infrastructure works in the area, including land clearing, and the construction of roads, culverts and drainage networks.

The release said Croal emphasised during the exercise that the infrastructure work aims to provide well-developed, residential areas for allottees.

It was also stated that the allottees expressed their excitement to commence construction of their new homes. The release said that for Nathalia Robinson, owning her land represents a dream fulfilled and a significant step towards independence and providing a better future for her children. “It’s an accomplishment not only for me but my three kids,” the release quoted her as saying.

The allottees will now process their agreements of sale and certificates of title, according to the release. Also in the coming weeks, the agency’s Surveys Unit will be scheduling similar exercises for other people who were allocated land in the scheme.
