Britton and Johnson secure medals in Men’s Doubles

– duo advance to semifinal section

The team of Shemar Britton and Elishaba Johnson has guaranteed Guyana a medal in the Men’s Doubles division of the 2024 ITTF Caribbean Championship, following a quarterfinal victory yesterday in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

The duo advanced to the semi-final segment after defeating the home pair of Eduardo Darley and Samuel Galvez 11-9, 11-4, and 11-7, in the process securing Guyana at least a bronze medal.

In their earlier round of 16 fixture, Britton and Johnson defeated the Jamaican pair of Rohan Lewis and Odingo Mitchell 11-6, 11-7, and 11-5.

Meanwhile, Chelsea Edghill and Natalie Cummings lost to the Cuban combination of Rosalba Aguiar and Karla Perez Gonzalez 11-6, 11-13, 11-7, 8-11, and 4-11 in the quarterfinal section of the Women’s Doubles.

In their earlier round of 16 encounter, the duo defeated the Dominican Republic team of Yesmeily Guerrero and Cinthia Pena 11-8, 11-8, and 11-5.

On the other hand, Thuria Thomas and Jasmine Billingy lost to the Puerto Rican duo of Edmarie Leon and Alondra Rodriguez. 5-11, 5-11, and 4-11 in the round of 16 section.

Also, Cummings went down to Brianna Burgos of Puerto Rico 11-6, 11-3, 11-9, and 11-3 in the round of 16 section of the Women’s Singles.
