Burglary accused duo remanded

– two others charged with ammo possession

Two construction workers accused of burglarising the home of an Eldorado Village, West Coast Berbice woman and removing several items, including five cell phones, were last Friday remanded to prison by Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir at the Weldaad Magistrate’s Court

A release from the police said that Carl Rowland, 18, and Shaquan Bentick, 20, both construction workers, of Lot 2 Eldorado Village, West Coast Berbice, were not required to enter pleas and were subsequently remanded to prison. They will return to court on May 25th.

Another release from the police said that the incident occurred on April 24th and following a report, acting on information, ranks from the division conducted a police operation during which they recovered several items suspected to be stolen.

It was during this operation that the team went to the residence of the two men and recovered five cellular phones, one Nintendo game, three packs of powdered milk, one bottle of Vita Malt, one smartwatch, two yellow metal chains, one earpiece, one Asus brand laptop computer and $52,320.

The release said that all the items were suspected to be stolen. When confronted, the men could not give an account of how they obtained them. The items were confiscated, documented, and lodged at the police station.

Meantime, acting on additional information received, the ranks proceeded to another location in the same area. At that location, two men, Ricardo Marshall, a 23-year-old of North East La Penitence, Georgetown, and Shaun George, a 21-year-old of Turkeyen, East Coast Demerara were seen.

During a search of the location, one of the ranks observed Marshall throwing several small objects through a window. Both men were escorted to the yard, and upon checking, the rank recovered eight rounds of 9 MM ammunition.

Marshall and George also appeared before Magistrate Mohabir where they pleaded not guilty to possession of ammunition and were remanded to prison until May 24th.
