Letters to the Editor

Desmond Ali does not have the authority to speak on our behalf and we reject his views on the art situation

Dear Editor, Having read the latest of Mr. Desmond Ali’s frequent criticism on the Art situation in Guyana published in Stabroek News on Wednesday April 27, 2011 under the caption `Given the poor support from the government, the artist community is shocked by the size of the budget allocation to the Culture Ministry’, we cannot help but reject and disassociate ourselves and organizations we represent from such a statement.

The GTU has certainly done much better than the GPSU

Dear Editor, Ever since the existence of the recent accord between the Ministry of Education and the Guyana Teachers’ Union (GTU) became public, some of us were ‘regaled’ while others were jaded by the numerous criticisms which it attracted.

PNCR has an ingrained policy of non co-operation with the gov’t

Dear Editor, The Norway International Climate and Forest Initiative (NICFI) appears to me to be quite an amorphous entity and the report on its implementation regarding this country’s thrust on the Low Carbon Development Strategy as “unsatisfactory” is simply too superficial to be taken seriously.

The PPP appears to be deeply worried about low voter turnout among its traditional support base

Dear Editor, Health Minister, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy’s letter (`All decent Guyanese should take offence at what happened in 1973 on the Corentyne’ SN, May 4), in which he painted himself as both a witness and a victim of the 1973 elections violence, is an attempt to follow his President in dredging up the PNC’s past so that traditional PPP supporters will not repeat what they did in 2006 and stay away in large numbers on Election Day.
