Letters to the Editor

Dr Luncheon seems to have misread the open letter to Minister Solheim

Dear Editor, In his letter (‘Ram and Bulkan need to start getting their facts right,’ SN April 15), Dr Roger Luncheon, Head of the Presidential Secretariat, says – “Mr Ram and Dr Bulkan (as well as Mr Ramjattan and others) claimed in a letter to Norwegian Minister Erik Solheim that the only justification for the Amaila Hydro Power project was a one-and-a-half page entry in the LCDS.

Our cricket legacy must be progress not destruction

Dear Editor, My attention was drawn last week to a letter appearing in two of the daily newspapers’ letter columns calling for the establishment of an IMC for cricket in Guyana (‘The Minister should install an interim board at the GCB’ SN, April 9).

Franklin not in a position to make allegations against Ramsaroop

Dear Editor, It has been reported that Mr Everard Franklin of GAP/ROAR has accused Peter Ramsaroop of “treachery,” etc, concerning the unity of JOPP; I would just like to state for the record, that I find it very strange that Mr Franklin would make such allegations when he, Mr Hardy and Mr Dev with the backing of the AFC, in the intensive deliberations leading up to the 2006 elections, were the ones who were responsible for the break-up of the Third Force platform which we were trying to put together.

The absence of the GFF President from the launch of the Schools Football Academy is a matter for concern

Dear Editor, The absence of the Guyana Football Federation President or an official representative from the inaugural Scotia Bank/Pepsi/ Guyana Sports Development Foundation (GSDF) Schools Football Academy, which was officially launched on Saturday, April 12, 2011 at the Carifesta Sports Complex, Carifesta Avenue, should at least be of major concern to all and sundry.

The Aurora irrigation scheme should be expanded

Dear Editor, Given our endowment of rice agricultural lands here in Region 2, it is a matter of common sense to expand the Aurora irrigation scheme in Region 2; that should be one of the main planks of our development strategy.

Enough is enough

Dear Editor, It’s with great pleasure that I commend the bold efforts of Messrs Donald Duff and Marlon Munroe, Sports Editor and journalist respectively, for the extensive coverage on the football saga that Stabroek Sports has been providing almost on a daily basis for the past two weeks.

GPL is in a muddle

Dear Editor, After performing my morning chores on April 7, that included tending to my kitchen garden (it is flourishing) I placed some coffee to ‘perk’ and realized that nothing was happening.

What commitments were made by VHPI?

Dear Editor, With reference to the information from the press conference held by Minister Robert Persaud on April 12 about VHPI and reported variously in all three daily newspapers on April 13, perhaps you could jog the memory of Minister Robert Persaud about the wording of the National Forest Policy and the procedures of the Guyana Forestry Commission for handling applications for logging concessions?

What is so democratic about leaders refusing to go to the members?

Dear Editor, In a letter in SN dated April 13 and captioned, ‘Consensus represents an ideal state,’ Mr Hydar Ally praised the PPP leadership as being very democratic and speaks of persons being able to subordinate their aspirations for the collective good of the organization – mind you not the good of the members, the supporters or the people of Guyana.
