Letters to the Editor

Guyana is not a militarised state

Dear Editor, It is injurious to public understanding and to truth-seeking that the terms ‘a militarised state’ and ‘the militarisation of the state’ have been so recklessly thrown into our political discourse.

Sohan’s statement that Ground Structures…Inc cannot lodge a protest with the World Bank is not substantiated in the Bank’s guidelines

Dear Editor, The letter captioned ‘Ministry obligated to adhere to World Bank’s guidelines for selection of consultants’ written by Charles Sohan and published in the Stabroek News of October 31, provides an opportunity for Ground Structures Engineering Consultants (GSEC) to provide clarity on the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) evaluation process.

SARU not SOCU

Dear Editor, I regret to inform you that at last Friday’s AFC press conference (October 28) I inadvertently stated that “ SOCU”  had visited the offices of the Ministry of Public Telecommunications in relation to  investigations into the results of the audit of the NFMU.

Derision was not the right approach

Dear Editor, The letter of Malika Ramsey, who is also one of Minister of State Joe Harmon’s media/press personnel, shed some insight on the government communication strategy that contributes to negative perceptions and angst among the people, and allows the opposition PPP/C to walk all over the leadership (‘Press release on meeting with ministers came from PNCR headquarters’ SN, October 31, 2016).

Granger also has a political duty to neutralize a hostile opposition

Dear Editor, President David Granger in his recent address to the National Assembly, redirected the nation‘s attention to the mismanagement of the country by the PPP/C administration, pointing to the financial, economic and social problems his government inherited, as major reasons why the coalition government has been unable to deliver more benefits to the citizens of Guyana.

A return to Burnhamism?

Dear Editor, Your editorial (Sunday, October 30, 2016) captioned ‘Cabinet and army HQ’ raises some important questions regarding the current state of governance in Guyana.
