Dear Editor,
As the National Assembly considers the 2012 Budget, including the significant proposed government contribution to the Amaila Falls Hydropower project, we have undertaken an exercise to calculate, based on publically available information, the estimated electricity cost arising from the project.
Dear Editor,
I find it so amusing that the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs would actually, at this stage, release a photo of the Captain of Tobago Hill with a hassar in hand.
Just prior to this weekend’s 6th Summit of the Americas in Cartagena, Colombia, the Secretary General of the Organisation of American States (OAS), the Chilean politician, José Miguel Insulza, expressed a wish that all the countries of the continent would be present at future summits.
Dear Editor,
A report in SN of April 9 with an accompanying photo showed a collapsed river defence masonry wall at Louisiana, Leguan which according to the Government Information Agency (GINA) failed during the spring tide of Friday, April 6.
Dear Editor,
The Guyana Chronicle story of April 11 captioned, ‘Moses has lost his way: now a self confessed child abuser,’ can be described as nothing but a low-down, dirty and shameless statement on the part of the PPP/C government.
Dear Editor,
Much has been said and much more will probably be said about acting Chief Justice Ian Chang’s ruling in the Commissioner Greene rape allegation case.
Dear Editor,
With regard to the budget debate, much is being made of the burden faced by the poor, the working class and the pensioners, among other downtrodden people, and their neglect in the budget presentation.
Dear Editor,
Like my colleague Nowrang Persaud, I feel encouraged to react to the article in SN of April 6, 2012, on ‘Performance Management Practices.’
Dear Editor,
I refer to an article published in the Kaiteur News of March 28 entitled ‘Rice miller owes millions to the Charity – Zorg-en-Vlygt WUA in rates, taxes.’
Dear Editor,
Over the past twenty years a recurring problem of unaccountability and lack of transparency has plagued successive village councils of Orealla and Siparuta, and the outgoing OVC is no different.
The silence is deafening. The silence is deadening. And as the days go by the silence eats away at the confidence some of us might have had in public officials and goes to the heart of what really is the matter with this society.
Dear Editor,
APNU’s view, articulated by the Deputy Speaker and Ms Volda Lawrence, MP, that the Director of Public Prosecutions should appeal Chief Justice Chang’s decision in the Henry Greene matter (Stabroek News edition of April 3 refers) is commendable, if I may say so with respect.
Dear Editor,
Since the decision of Chief Justice (ag) Chang on March 9, 2012 in which he granted orders of certiorari and prohibition, in the process staying the recommendation to charge Commissioner Greene for rape, the press has been inundated by social and political commentators attacking Justice Chang personally more than the decision he handed down.
Dear Editor,
Would justice ever occur in West Indies cricket? One is left to wonder if the people who are in charge of the game in the Caribbean are really committed to its development.
Dear Editor,
I write to applaud the efforts of the Richmond Hill Guyanese advocacy group in convincing New York City Transit to upgrade the subway train station at Lefferts Boulevard in the heart of the Guyanese American community in Richmond Hill.
