Dear Editor, I wish to refer to a letter under the caption ‘How was Toshao Xavier chosen to serve on the UN forum?’

Dear Editor, I began my critique of Mr M Maxwell’s ‘Truth has no political party’ (SN, December 26, 2010) with the following statement: “Every so often one comes upon a letter that is so ill-conceived and littered with misconceptions that one can only ascribe untoward designs to its author.

Dear Editor, Part of your report in SN January 4, 2011, said “Drilling for oil in Guyana for the first time in a decade commenced last Friday at the Takutu Basin in Region Nine.”

Dear Editor, After reading Roland Thorne’s letter ‘All PNCR members should be allowed to vote for the presidential candidate’ (SN, December 31, 2010) a couple of things need to be said.

Mrs Mara Thompson, the widow of the prime minister of Barbados David Thompson, announced last week that she was contesting the January 20, 2011 by-election for the St John parish seat which became vacant on the death of her husband in October last year.

Dear Editor, Although over recent years the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) has undergone some remarkable and positive changes in its officers, the poor quality of various services remains an underlying issue which needs to be addressed.

Dear Editor, Over the past years young people in our country have been told that they are either not responsible enough, not politically involved enough or not ready enough to take on many challenges in our community and country.

As the second decade of the new century rolls in, it would appear that even the major powers of the world, including the United States of America cannot, with confidence, set a path of movement in international politics and economics which they feel will proceed relatively smoothly.

Dear Editor, I wish to acknowledge the passing of a dear and wonderful person, Mrs Orlene Ranetta Daniels, née Bristol.

Dear Editor, Could the Ministry of Housing and Water state clearly for the general public its policy or position on house-lots that were repossessed in the various housing schemes?

Dear Editor, Ralph Ramkarran stated in his letter in the SN online edition dated Sunday, January 2, 2011, `The Central Committee is the only constitutionally constituted body authorized to decide on the presidential candidate.’

Dear Editor, I don’t have a problem with criticism ( see `Ralph Ramkarran is the best PPP/C candidate for the presidency’ SN Jan 1, 2011).

Dear Editor, Ever since declaring his interest in being the PPP’s presidential candidate for the constitutionally due general elections  in 2011 Mr Ralph Ramkarran has written several letters extolling the democratic virtues of the PPP.
