Dear Editor When I was young (so long ago!) I started reading Perry Mason mysteries and enjoyed them thoroughly.

As 2010 recedes, there can be little doubt that much that was hoped for, by way of economic and social performance in most our Caricom countries, has not seen the light of day.

Dear Editor, In an SN letter of December 23, Mr Omadatt Chandan, Corporate Secretary of the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA) reported that although excavation work has stopped on the 10.3 km long Hope Canal Project, mobilization and other activities such as ancillary drainage relief works for the East Demerara Water Conservancy (EDWC) which he termed ‘project works’ are being carried out in the vicinity of the canal (‘While work was temporarily halted in some sections of the Hope Canal project, there was mobilization for works to be carried out in other sections’).

Dear Editor, This is the second Christmas the right to representation has been denied bauxite workers employed at the Bauxite Company of Guyana Inc (BCGI) and 57 of them have been stripped of the right to work and provide economic sustenance for themselves and families. 

Dear Editor, The government will earn itself a mixed report card for 2010, and I guess for the remainder of the time in office.

Dear Editor, I am greatly heartened by the nomination of Mr Bertie Xavier to serve on the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues by the Government of Guyana, and his election to that body.

Quite a few thieves, would-be thieves and suspected thieves have been caught and mercilessly beaten by outraged residents of the communities that they have targeted.

Dear Editor, The Government of Guyana by its actions is committed to the recognition and development of the indigenous peoples of our country.

Dear Editor, Season’s greetings to all Guyanese. The caption of the Demerara Waves online article ‘Kissoon Benschop arrested for blocking landfill site; Government intervenes in chaotic landfill’ and comments by Public Works Minister Robeson Benn surely give the impression that the problem at the Le Repentir Disposal Site was caused by the Georgetown municipality.

Dear Editor, Godfrey Chin’s article  on the Metropole cinema in the December 12 edition of Sunday Stabroek, was a welcome addition to his Nostalgia series.

Dear Editor, Tomorrow on Boxing Day, December 26, Dame Olga Lopes-Seale will be 93 years of age, and her ‘nephews’ and ‘nieces’ in Guyana all send her birthday greetings.
