Letters to the Editor

The matter involving a miner and the Chinese Landing Village Council is engaging the attention of the Office of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs and the GGMC

Dear Editor, I refer to the open letter penned by Toshao Theophilus Fernandes of the Chinese Landing Village Council and published in the form of an advertisement on page 18 of the April 1, 2011 issue of the Stabroek News and wish to respond to the inaccuracies contained in some sections of his letter for fear that they could convey wrong impressions to an unsuspecting public.

A travesty perpetrated by the city councillors

Dear Editor, As a citizen I am most concerned about the travesty reported to have been recently perpetrated by the Councillors of Georgetown – at once reflecting an embarrassing display of ignorance of the very statute – Cap 28:01 – by which they should govern, and be governed.

The law should be no respecter of persons

Dear Editor, On Friday, March 11, Deputy Cabinet Secretary and Permanent Secretary in Office of the President, Dr Nanda Gopaul, crashed his car into another vehicle parked on Carifesta Avenue, badly damaging the parked vehicle and injuring a passenger who was reportedly about to enter the parked vehicle.

Group which sought delay in LCDS payments is political

Dear Editor, I wish to refer to an article in the Stabroek News under the caption ‘Gov’t has substantially failed to implement forest saving agreement with Norway, say civil society members…’ in its issue of  March 28; and one in the Kaieteur News of the same date under the caption ‘Group wants Norway to delay payment to Guyana.’

The entire Guyana Cricket Board needs to go

Dear Editor, Guyana’s dubious distinction of finishing in the cellar of Senior Regional Competition for the third consecutive year has passed without the usual press conferences and press releases for which the Guyana Board and most of its executives have become famous or infamous over the past two years or so.

Guyana is not a democracy

Dear Editor, Guyana is a democracy, in spite of overwhelming racial voting, says Sultan Mohamed (‘All over the world in democratic societies people vote race’ SN, March 30).

Obama and the youth will give the world new meaning

Dear Editor, Where is al Qaeda? Only in the mind of Gaddafi who is trying to blame the uprisings in Libya on Islamic fundamentalism, when the facts are that the people of the Middle East are rebelling for democracy and demanding a new era of information and information technology which is available in true democratic countries, especially the United States.
