Golfers set for Guyana Open tune-up

-Record number of participants for annual Ansa McAl tourney tomorrow

With just weeks away from the start of the Guyana Open, local golfers will be fine tuning preparations this weekend in the annual Ansa McAl Ltd. sponsored Golf tournament at the Lusignan Golf Course.

A record number of participants are expected following the response to last weekend’s sponsored European Union (EU) tournament.
Forty six golfers took part in last weekend’s tournament and according to Secretary of the Lusignan Golf Club Ronald Bulkan that number could be surpassed tomorrow as greater interest  is being shown in the sport locally.

Among the top contenders are Ian Gouveia, Patrick Prashad, Esau Shamshudin, Chatterpaul Deo, Imran Khan, Mike Mangal, Lester Alvis, Joann Deo, Greet Heikens, Rita Heikens, Melissa Humphrey, Brian Gladford,  Ronald Bulkan, Jerome Khan, Maurice Solomon, Brian Hackett, Christine Sukhram, Robert Hanoman, Mike Guyadin, Avinda Kishore, Bolaram Deo, Dr. Ram Singh, Clifford Reis, Mark Lashley, Alfred Mentore and Albert Semple.

Representatives of Ansa McAl Ltd. are expected to attend and assist in the presentation of prizes and according to Bulkan, a special invitation has been extended to former Managing Director Paul Chan-a-Sue of the company  to attend the day’s action.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers as well as Closest to the Pin.

Registration will close on Friday at 16:00 hours and interested players can register by calling the bar at telephone number 220-5660.
Assembly time is 12:20 for a briefing before the actual Tee off at 12:30 hours.

The Guyana Open championships will take place in early November and already golfers from several countries have shown a keen interest in competing in the annual affair.
