Police hunting Dakara shooter

The police are looking for a suspect who is believed to be behind the shooting incident in which 8-year-old Christine Reevers of Dakara, Linden-Soesdyke Highway sustained five pellet wounds to her neck  and shoulders on Monday afternoon.
Reevers  was at the time playing with her other siblings in the yard of her parents’ home when she was shot.

According to reports, the man had been employed as a checker by the operator of a loam pit situated close to the child’s residence. The infant’s relatives told Stabroek News yesterday that police officers had visited the area on Tuesday in search of the suspect who has since disappeared. The child’s mother, Maureen Flores, told this newspaper that the man had been a friend of her father–in-law over the years.

She said she was unaware of any dispute the two may have had but questioned the logic behind the incident since she related her family is poor and her husband works hard to maintain his family. She said the doctors told her the child’s condition could have been worse if the pellets had penetrated her throat.

Apart from some amount of pain being experienced in her daughter’s right shoulder, the woman said her daughter has been recovering ok. Flores said she became confused since the incident and expressed hope that the perpetrator (s) of the shooting would be arrested soon.
