Beterverwagting United/Triumph United (BV/TU) was crowned East Coast Demerara Football Association (EDFA) Stag Bear League Champions at the conclusion of the competition held at the Buxton Community ground on Sunday.
BVTU wrapped up the title even before kick off with an unassailable 27 points which meant that the outcome of their final league fixture which they lost 1-2 to Mahaica Determinators had no bearing on deciding the winning team. Azumah Roberts gave Mahaica Determinators the early lead through a third minute strike but BV/TU knotted the score in the 49th minute through a Malcolm Wilson effort. Locked at one goal apiece, Roberts would complete his brace as he scored the winning in the 55th minute.
In the Buxton derby, Buxton United, led by goals from Kadwjo Garnett, Ralph Maffatt and Shawn Campbell in the 29th, 60th and 65th minutes respectively hammered fifth positioned Buxton Stars 3-0 to finish second in the points standing.
Prior to the conclusion of the East Coast League, the GFF/EDFA U15 competition was brought to a close as home side Buxton United were crowned champions by defeating Golden Grove 4-2 on penalties as regulation was unable to find a victor with the scores locked at nil-all.
In the third place fixture Melanie needled BV/TU 4-1 on penalty kicks as normal time found both sides locked at two apiece. Paul Kingston netted a double in the 25th and 35th minutes for BV/TU while Tafari Rogers and Jammal December equalized for Melanie in the 38th and 59th minutes respectively.
