The sons and daughters of Dartmouth should speak up in support of their fellow villager

Dear Editor,

Congratulations are in order to Sunday Stabroek for their weekly feature, ‘The world beyond Georgetown.’ It is interesting, and Stabroek News staff is doing a commendable job. Perhaps this series ought to be put in a magazine format for our schools and posterity.

This week featured the village of Dartmouth.

I have in by gone days visited and held meetings with the robust villagers, the likes of Dr Ptolemy A Reid, ‘Baggie’ Hopkinson and a host of patriots.

Recently a son from this area who manages a solid waste disposal company named Dartmouth Skips Rental Inc, had his contract unceremoniously terminated at the whim of the Town Clerk. No explanation has been offered. The Mayor and Councillors at a duly constituted statutory meeting decided to retain the services of the Dartmouth owned and named entity.

To celebrate Dartmouth one would expect that the many sons and daughters with roots in Dartmouth would have, as a matter of pure loyalty, begun protesting against this gross injustice and discrimination. Many Dartmouth folks are well off, some in positions of influence in this administration. Have they all become so comfortable that the white flag of surrender is flattery all over? Are they not concerned about the ill treatment of their fellow villager? I hope not. The citizens of Dartmouth should not let their noble ancestors feel ashamed of them, nor their descendants be embarrassed because they did not speak up. They need the current citizens’ clarion call.

Let justice be done though the heaven fall.

Yours faithfully,

Hamilton Green, JP
