Waiting for letter from Gecom

Dear Editor,

Last year, out of my inherent civic mindedness I had applied for the post of Presiding Officer for National and Regional Elections.

I uplifted a letter signed by the Chief Elections Officer dated 26th November, 2014 informing me that I should present myself for training at the North Ruimveldt Multilateral Secondary School on Saturday 6th December, 2014 and Sunday 7th December, 2015. This I punctually and dutifully did on both days.

I listened to the lectures, took appropriate note, partook in discussions and role plays and did all tests/exams.

Now I live in Lamaha Gardens and one of the co-ordinators told me that this venue was primarily for people residing in Lamaha Springs, Lamaha Park and their immediate environs. Anyway, I had already done my training there. I subsequently spoke to the Human Resources Manager of Gecom who assured me that my area would be corrected in the final analysis.

I was not chosen for any position for the elections. I thought that I had done pretty well to qualify since I had the experience of being a presiding officer in previous elections.

I now see a notice by Gecom that they are selecting persons from a “reservoir of trained election personnel.”

I am waiting with bated breath for this letter. Please do not let me suffocate.

Yours faithfully,
Roger A Bhulai
