VAT take down 10%

The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA)  is reporting that for the first quarter of 2017 earnings from the Value Added Tax (VAT) are at least 10% less than for the same period last year.

Carpenter charged over accident death of former soldier

A West Coast Berbice carpenter was yesterday placed on $500,000 bail after he was charged with causing the death by dangerous driving of a retired soldier who drove for the Ministry of the Presidency, Clifford Crandon Appearing before Magistrate Rondell Weever at the Weldaad Magistrate’s Court, O’Neil Alfred, 43, of 66 Semple Street, Hopetown, West Coast Berbice yesterday pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that he, on Monday evening drove motor car PFF 1232 on the Bush Lot Public Road, in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of Crandon.

Region Nine farmers, agro-processors get cost-of-production training

Even as hinterland communities face challenges in the quest to transform their agricultural initiatives into profitable business ventures, the Ministry of Agriculture has stated that the Guyana Marketing Corporation (GMC) in collaboration with the Canada-backed Promotion of Regional Opportunities for Produce through Enterprises and Linkages and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation in Agriculture has completed a Cost-of-Production Workshop at St Ignatius Village that targeted farmers and agro-processors in Region Nine.

Defective scales and the GNBS

Arising out of the media briefing earlier this week by Chief Inspector of the Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) Mr Shailendra Rai, we now know that hundreds of measuring devices including scales, masses and rulers that have not been verified as reliable and accurate were being employed to weigh and otherwise measure quantities in the business sector.
