Leopold Street sets up riveting clash with Future Stars

Leopold Street will oppose Future Stars, while Back Circle will engage Ol Skool Ballers in what is expected to be two riveting semi-final contests tomorrow following quarterfinal wins in the inaugural Guinness Cage Football Championships on Saturday.

Leopold Street confirmed their new status as the event’s most dangerous unit, blitzing a dogged Mocha unit 4-1 at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue.

The atmosphere was provided by the large crowd that gathered at the venue as tournament’s leading marksman Okeene Fraser netted twice to take his tally to seven goals.

Fraser bagged his brace in the fourth and 17th minute while the returning Omallo Williams also registered a double in the 28th and 34th minute. Amos Ramsay scored for the loser in the sixth minute.

However, Leopold Street’s next opponent will be the emerging and exciting Future Stars outfit who scraped past North Ruimveldt  1-0.

Jermaine Beckles secured the fortuitous win in the 14th minute as his strike was deflected off the leg of Gerald Gritten and settled in the back of the net.    Meanwhile, Ol Skool Ballers continued their giant killing ways, adding Albouystown-A to their growing list of victim’s compliments of an impressive 2-0 win.

The dynamic duo of Joel McGarrell and Roy Cassou settled the outcome with second half goals in the 35th and 36th minute respectively, earning a clash with giants Back Circle. The experienced and battled tested East Ruimveldt outfit overcame a 2-0 deficit to defeat the talented Gold is Money side 2-1 on penalty kicks following a 2-2 score at the end of regulation and extra time.

Stephon McLean sent the game into the its eventual conclusion, registering a brace in the 14th and 17th minute,after Gold is Money took the lead through Jamal Haynes and Jamal Pedro in the eighth and 10th minute respectively. The winners  of the historic event will receive $400,000 and the championship trophy. The runner-up will pocket $200,000 and the respective trophy.

Meanwhile, the third and fourth placed finishers will collect $100,000 and $50,000 respective and a trophy. On the individual side, the Most Valuable Player (MVP) will receive a gold chain from YK Investments and Pawn Shop and the respective accolade from Trophy Stall Bourda.
