Lawmen edge Monedderlust

Georgetown (GT) Police sealed their final’s berth in the GT Beer Berbice 8-aside Football Championship, edging Monedderlust on penalty kicks in their semifinal matchup, on Monday.

The lawmen prevailed in tense encounter from the penalty mark via a 1-0 scoreline, after regulation time ended 2-2 at the Scott’s School ground, New Amsterdam (NA).

Prior to the climatic end, GT Police took the lead in the seventh minute, as Rawle Haynes found the back of the net.

The lawmen quickly increased their advantage, with Anthio Wallace making his presence felt three minutes later.

However, Kevin Cottoy reduced the deficit before the halftime interval, blasting his effort past the opposing custodian in the 24th minute.

The contest was then pushed in the penalty shoot-out realm, as Athley Bailey etched his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 39th minute.

Winner of the event will receive $500,000 and the championship trophy, while the runner-up will pocket $300,000 and the corresponding accolade.

On the other hand, the third place finisher will receive $100,000 and a trophy.

On the individual side, the Highest Goal Scorer and the Best Goalkeeper will pocket $50,000 each. The tournament is also sponsored by Fly Jamaica.
