A vendor was yesterday sentenced to 24 months in prison for chopping his friend.
The charge stated that Neville Haynes on April 27th at Longden Street, Georgetown, unlawfully and maliciously wounded Colin Moore with intent to disfigure, disable or cause grievous bodily harm.
Haynes pleaded guilty to the charge
The facts in relation to the matter state that on the 26th of April, Haynes, Moore and their friend, who is known as ‘Red Man’ were gathered at Haynes’ stand. Haynes later fell asleep and when he woke up he discovered that his bicycle was missing and ‘Red Man’ and Moore were no longer there.
Haynes later saw ‘Red Man’ and asked where his bicycle was, to which ‘Red Man’ replied that Moore had collected the bicycle.
On the day in question, Haynes saw Moore and confronted him about the whereabouts of the bicycle. He then dealt Moore a chop to the left side of his face. Moore received 27 stitches on the outer side of his face, along with another 13 on the inside.
When asked by the magistrate if he had anything to say before the sentence was passed, Haynes stated “that’s to teach him not to thief from he friend them”.
Magistrate Leron Daly then sentenced Haynes to 24 months in prison.
