Albouystown businesswoman murdered

The Police say they are investigating the murder of Nalinie Persaud, 56, a businesswoman of 161 James Street, Albouystown which occurred about 3 am today during the course of a robbery at her residence, allegedly by four masked males, two of whom were armed with handguns.

The Guyana Public Service Union (GPSU) has since 2015 been attempting to negotiate an increase in allowances for public servants but these attempts have been resisted by government which has not raised allowances in more than 20 years.

Guyanese must not have to settle for oil crumbs

General Secretary of the Guyana Trades Union Congress, Lincoln Lewis has called for measures to be put in place to ensure that citizens are not forced to work for crumbs in the oil and gas sector while foreigners benefit and suggested several amendments to the rules surrounding the functioning of the National Assembly.

Canada yesterday joined the United States and the European Union in criticising the controversial sympathy motion in Parliament last Friday for the late convicted terrorist plotter and former PNCR MP Abdul Kadir.

CARICOM keen on extension of US trade partnership act

CARICOM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque has expressed the community’s interest in the renewal of legislation for the extension of the Caribbean Basin Trade Partnership Act (CBTPA) and the World Trade Organization (WTO) waiver beyond December 2019 to allow continued duty-free access to the US market.
