Berbice schools book maiden appearance in NSBF semis

New Amsterdam Technical Institute [NATI] and Berbice High secured their maiden appearance in the National School Basketball Festival [NSBF] U18 semi-final round following quarterfinal wins on Monday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue.

It is the first time in the event’s history that two schools from the Berbice region have  progressed to the semi-final stage.

NATI crushed Linden unit Mackenzie High 51-33. Kadeem Dover tallied a game-high 20 points. He was supported by Gevon Schultz who added 15 points, nine rebounds and Jermain King who scored 12 points.

On the other side, Shamar Savory bagged 12 points, nine rebounds while Tyrese Arthur added eight points, seven rebounds.

In another fixture, Berbice High downed St. Joseph’s High 37-29. Kezron Cort bagged figures of 14 points, seven rebounds in the win, while Charles Williams added 11 points, seven rebounds and Rickford Blair added 10 points.

For St Joseph’s, Shaquawn Gill amassed 15 points and nine rebounds with Shaqueem Wilson the next best scorer with 12 points. Meanwhile, President’s College and Kwakwani secured the other two remaining semi-final berths.

President’s College mauled Marian Academy 53-27. Jushawn Bailey led the rout with 14 points, with Richard Semple contributing eight points, seven rebounds and five assists, alongside an eight-point effort from Akinyele Derrell.

For the losers, Jether Harris amassed nine points and nine rebounds. Also, Kwakwani overcame the Bishops’ High 52-47.

Rawl Sampson led the way with 12 points, while Rayon Short narrowly missed out on a double-double with nine points and as many rebounds. Adding nine points was Elijah David.

For the Carmichael Street outfit, Roydon Glasgow registered a game-high 19 points. The Festival is sponsored by Edward B. Beharry and Company Ltd, The National Sports Commission, Banks DIH, Exxon Mobil and Bounty Ltd.
