Guyanese lawn tennis ace Afruica Gentle stormed her way to championship honours in the Touch Tuina Blue Mountain Caribbean Junior Lawn Tennis Championships in Jamaica with two more impressive performances in the semis and final.

Gentle who breezed through the preliminary rounds, accounted for Jamaican Aanchal Khemlani in the semis 6-0, 6-0 before downing Barbadian Laurene Mottley 6-0, 6-1 in the final to capture her third Caribbean title.

The 18-year old in the earlier rounds disposed of Jamaicans Kalila Morris  6-1, 6-0 and Kailey Chin 6-1, 6-0 on Monday to move her way to the title round matches.

Speaking with Stabroek Sports moments after her triumph, Gentle disclosed that she is satisfied with her dominant performance. She also spoke of her constant interaction with local coach Rebecca Mitchell for advice during the tournament, as one of the contributing factors to her success. “I’m pretty satisfied with the outcome of the first tournament… it was a dominant performance. Two of the players I knew them from last year and I analysed them from then to now and I was actually calling my coach in Guyana, and I would talk to her about their game and she would give me strategies and we would plan on how to play the matches,” she explained as the force behind her dominant showing. The Guyanese will now turn her attention to the ITF junior Championship which will serve off on Monday in Jamaica. She is hoping to replicate her form.
