Capital FC and Botofago secured lopsided group wins, when the inaugural Divine Entertainment Summer Super Cup Football tournament continued on Friday at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground, Linden.

Capital FC made light work of Hi-Stars with a 7-0 scoreline. The quartet of Andre Mayers, Keon Sears, Tony Adams and Emmanuel Atkins shared the goals in the lopsided contest.

The contest was effectively over in the first half as Capital FC romped to a commanding 3-0 lead, before scoring a further four goals in the second stanza which sealed the outcome.

Emerging talent Mayers was the primary scorer, recording a hat-trick in the fourth, 24th and 77th minute. He was followed by experienced forward Keon Sears, who bagged a brace in the 55th and 65th minute.

Chipping in with solitary conversions were Adams and Atkins in the 35th and 79th minute respectively. With the win, Capital FC finished joint atop Group C with Winners Connection due to their identical points and goal differential.

The tournament did not utilise the accumulation of cards rule as a tie-breaker. The two teams will face-off in a playoff match to decide who progresses to the semifinal round, the tournament organisers said.

Meanwhile, Botofago crushed Silver Shattas 5-0. Jamal Haynes recorded the first half’s only conversion in the 34th minute.

However, the floodgates would open in the second period, as Botofago recorded four unanswered goals, three of which occurred in the space of four minutes during the latter stages of the contest.

Sibling Shayne Haynes made it 2-0 in the 48th minute to increase his team’s advantage. Dequan Hercules smashed a quickfire brace with conversions in the 86th and 87th minute as the score ballooned to 4-0.

The final nail in the proverbial coffin would be applied in the 90th minute from the boot of Runic Velloza. The event resumes today at the same venue with the semifinal matches.

The competition, which is slated to conclude on August 3rd, was contested in an initial group stage format.

Group A comprised Eagles, Topp XX and Coomacka while Group B consisted of Net-rockers, Amelia’s Ward and Blueberry Hill. Group C contained Winners Connection, Capital FC and Hi-Stars and Group D featured Milerock, Botofago and Silver Shattas.
