The second edition of the Hercules Basketball Academy’s (HBA) Bartica Basketball Camp, was officially launched yesterday at the Water Street location of premier sponsor GraceKennedy Money Services.

The camp, which commences today and which is endorsed by the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF), will target the age groups Under-11 to Under-18.

Among the areas that will be covered during the outreach programme are dribbling, shooting, passing, defensive techniques and rules of the game, as well as life skills and scholarship guidance.

Matches will be held between the participants while an exhibition match between Plaisance Guardians and the recently formed Bartica Wranglers will bring the curtains down on the camp. Registration for the event is free.

Junior Hercules, head of the HBA, thanked GraceKennedy for their continued support in making the event a reality. He observed that the company has strong roots in Bartica.

According to Hercules, the camp will feature more than 30 individuals and will target the grassroots level, as they aim to build and eventually strengthen the basketball capacity of the region.

He further revealed that the initiative was birthed as a means of increasing the scope and association numbers of the GABF and added that the emergence of the Bartica Association is a direct consequence of the camp.

Meanwhile, GraceKennedy Marketing Assistant Tina Gibson said that the company is happy to be associated with the training camp. She highlighted that the entity believes in the development and importance of sport.

She added that the decision to once again support the initiative highlights the company’s corporate responsibility and commitment to develop the young minds of the next generation.

The other sponsors of the event include the National Sports Commission, Banks DIH Limited and Plaisance Guardians.
