Uitvlugt hurries past newcomers Hurry ATE

Uitvlugt FC downed newcomer Hurry ATE 5-3 when the West Demerara Football Association (WDFA) leg of the NAMILCO u17 championship yesterday at the National Track and Field Center, Leonora.

Samuel McCloud handed Hurry ATE the early lead in the third minute of 70 minute contest.

McLoud launched onto a loose ball following a fumble by the goalkeeper to finish into the back of the net.

The lead proved to be short-lived as Shaquan Gilkes made his presence felt, tallying the first of two eventual goals in the third minute.

The scoreline remained unchanged heading into the halftime interval. However the game exploded into life in the second half as a combined six goals were recorded.

Four of the aforesaid conversions were registered by Uitvlugt who stormed to a commanding 5-1 lead to effectively seal the outcome.

Gilkes broke the deadlock with a right foot attempt into the far corner in the 38th minute.

Malcolm Dainty then got into the scoring act in the 42nd minute to make it 3-1, uncorking a powerful shot into the roof of the net from 22 yards outside the penalty box.

Travis Fraser made his presence felt with a well placed finish into the right side in the 45th minute.

He would return 10 minutes later to complete his brace and the team’s eventual tally.

On the other side, Hurry ATE bagged two consolation goals in the form of Deshawn Lyron.

A moment of complacency by the Uitvlugt rearguard allowed Lyron to reduce the deficit, stabbing his effort past the custodian in the 57th minute

He would return two minutes later to etch his name on the scorer’s sheet, lobbing his effort over the advancing goalkeeper into the back of the net from inside the area.

 The event resumes today at the same venue with another match. Wales will lock horns with Pouderoyen from 16:00hrs. 

Meanwhile on Friday at the same location, Den Amstel will match skills with Eagles from 16:00hrs.

On Sunday, Den Amstel will tackle Hurry ATE from 10:00hrs, while Pouderoyen will engage Uitvlugt at 12:00hrs and Wales will take aim at Eagles from 14:00hrs.
