Spartacus upsets Rio All Stars as Magnum Futsal tourney commences

Sparta Boss, Leopold Street, Alexander Village, Spartacus and Showstoppers all won their matches Saturday evening at the National Gymnasium as the third Magnum Tonic Wine Mashramani Cup Futsal tournament kicked-off.

National giant Sparta Boss squeaked past Back Circle 1-0 compliments of a Deon Alfred conversion in the fifth minute. Likewise, Leopold Street edged Melanie 2-1. Omallo Williams bagged a brace in the third and 12th minute. For the losers, Odell Gulliver scored in the second minute.

Also, Spartacus upset Rio All-Stars 3-2. Jamal McPherson crafted a brace in the 10th and 14th minute, while Simeon Moore added a conversion in the fifth minute. For Rio All-Stars, Kelsey Benjamin and A. Austin scored in the 12th and 13th minute respectively.

On the other hand, Alexander Village mauled Spot-7 by a 6-1 score. Experienced forward Shem Porter scored twice in the ninth and 11th minute while Leon Yaw tallied a double in the sixth and 12th minute. Adding goals in the 13th and 14th minute respectively were Orville Stewart and Anton Porter.

For Spot-7, S. Stanton netted in the third minute. Meanwhile, Showstoppers overcame North East La Penitence 2-1. Luiroy Nieuelder and Akeem Trim scored in the seventh and 14th minute respectively.

For the loser, Lance Forde scored in the fifth minute.

In other results, Ansa McAl defeated Bad-a-Yard 2-0 and Bent Street and Avocado Ballers battled to a 1-1 stalemate. The tournament continues tomorrow at the same venue with another round of matches.

 The winning team will pocket $700,000 and the championship trophy, while the second place side will collect $400,000 and a trophy. The third and fourth place unit will receive $200,000 and $100,000 respectively and the corresponding trophy.
