Corentyne woman arrested after partner succumbs to chop injury

A Corentyne woman was yesterday arrested after her partner succumbed to a chop injury at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital on Wednesday after-noon. 

Dead is Anthony Permaul, also known as ‘Banks’, 41, labourer of Clifton Settlement, Corentyne.

According to information gathered, on Monday, Permaul and his common-law wife were imbibing together when an argument ensued.

According to residents, Permaul dealt the woman  a cuff to her face after which she picked up a cutlass and chopped him on his arm.

The woman  on Tuesday morning, took Permaul to the Port Mourant Public Hospital where he was referred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospi-tal, where he was then admitted and later succumbed. 

The woman was then arrested after a report was filed at the Rose Hall Police Outpost.

According to a source, the woman, who was arrested while under the influence of alcohol, denied the allegation. 

A post-mortem examination will be done on Permaul sometime next week so as to ascertain the exact cause of death.
