Eleven new cases of coronavirus recorded

Eleven new cases of the novel coronavirus were recorded yesterday as a record 150 persons were tested between Tuesday and yesterday.

The increase in cases was observed after the Ministry of Public Health last night posted the COVID-19 dashboard. The eleven new cases increased Guyana’s total number of positive confirmed cases to 350. A record 150 more persons were tested for the virus during the last testing cycle. The total number of persons tested now stands at 3,919.

The country now has 166 active cases all of which are in institutional isolation while 33 persons are in institutional quarantine. The number of persons in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit increased to three even as two more persons recovered from the virus. The total number of recovered cases stands at 165, one less than the number of active cases as of July 22.  As it stands, all administrative regions except Region Five, since the COVID-19 outbreak began in March, have recorded COVID-19 cases. Currently, hotspots for the outbreak are in Regions One and Seven as they have the highest and second highest active cases respectively, in the country.
