Palms still following COVID-19 protocols

The Palms Geriatric Home continues to be guided by the protocols issued by the Ministry of Public Health to ensure the safety of its staff and residents from COVID-19.

Dr Yoganand Manoo, attached to the Clinical and Technical Department at the national Health Emergency Operations Centre (HEOC), told Stabroek News that the home is currently not taking admissions, however, should a situation arise where they is need to accept someone, testing and quarantining will be done.

He noted that the isolation facility that was set up at the home is still there. Should another set of cases arise, he said, there is already an area allotted for that.

Manoo said the ministry is in continuous contact with the home as they continue to follow protocols, such as hand washing and the using of face masks. An area was set up at the entrance of the home to ensure persons are screened prior to entering the compound.

Last month, the Social Protection Ministry announced that the home was COVID-19 free, after having dealt with 12 cases of the virus, two of whom died. A thirteenth case coming out of the home, was said to be a Patient Care Assistant.
