Cops uncover almost 140lbs of ganja at West Berbice

New Commander of Region Five Edmond Cooper and several ranks discovered a total of 136 pounds of cannabis at various locations in the region in two separate operations yesterday. 

Based on intelligence gathered, the commander and the ranks proceeded to the Weldaad seawall, where they found two large transparent plastic parcels in two separate areas. 

The items were picked up and transported to the Weldaad Police Station, where they were weighed and confirmed to amount to a total of 72 pounds.

Additionally, the commander and his team around 9 am yesterday proceeded to the sea dam at Kingelly Village, West Coast Berbice, where they also discovered two large transparent plastic among two tombs located in the area. 

The parcels were weighed and they amounted to a total of 64 pounds.  

Stabroek News was told that the police also found three motorcycles, bearing licence plate numbers CK 4203, CK 1363 and CH 7170, and a green backpack containing a Samsung phone at the sea dam location.

The police noticed a man in the area but were unsuccessful in apprehending him. 

The motorcycles were taken to the Weldaad Police Station and an investigation has since been launched into both discoveries.
