Region 10 man, 85, latest COVID fatality

One COVID-19 death was recorded yesterday along with 29 new cases of the virus.

The Ministry of Health identified the latest fatality from the pandemic as an 85-year-old man from Region Ten. This is the second death to have been recorded in Region Ten for the week.

Meanwhile, the 29 new cases that were recorded increased the total confirmed number in the country to 6,436. These new cases came after 241 persons were tested which increased the total number of persons tested to 39,565.

The cases were recorded in five of the country’s ten administrative Regions: nine in Region One, two in Region Three, seven in Region Four, five in Region Five and three cases each in Regions Six and Seven.

As a result there are now 282 active cases in the country, 20 of whom are in institutional isolation while the other 262 are in home isolation. Four persons remain patients at the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit. 

Forty-six persons are in institutional quarantine even as 35 more persons have recovered, thus increasing the total number of recovered cases in Guyana to 5,983.
