There are lots of hot eddoes roasting on a bed of nails in a forest fire

Dear Editor,

I refer to the article titled, “New Integrity Commission board being set up -Texeira” (SN March 6).  I use that local development to offer some unsolicited advice to the government in a spirit of good citizenship and fulfilling Christian duty. Apparently, that Integrity Commission is already in the works and the responsible minister is hopeful that the appointment will be “shortly.”  I humbly implore the Hon. Minister to go very slowly on the composition of such a commission.  She has her work cut out for her, as there are so few people of integrity left in this society.  As Exhibit A I offer her parliamentary colleagues (both sides); as Exhibit B, there are those public servants (professionals, board members, religious luminaries) previously selected, and say: look there and appreciate what we have for integrity.  The same unpardonable personnel mistakes must not be repeated; it would not be integrity, but iniquity.

Regarding those vaccines, I qualify.  Thus, I intend to hold the minister of health to his promise to prioritize ‘old people’ next.  The PPP’s own people threw some darts my way, by including me with septuagenarians and those of greater vintage.  I was honoured.  And now I am going to see how honourable this country’s health minister is in keeping his word publicly given.  I am already lining up. Elsewhere, both the Guyana Police Force and the DPP’s office are walking barefooted on a bed of nails in a forest fire.  It is over that little bout of alleged fisticuffs directed at a coalition MP from a pugilistic foe from the battling PPP corner of parliament.

These lovely citizens should be sword fencing with words and no more.  Yet here it is that dangerous instrumentalities like cellphones are not being beaten into ploughshares, but are used to beatdown another honourable member of the peoples’ house while she is engaged into the conduct of the peoples’ business.  That is a disgraceful bunch, aren’t they? If this claim has any merit that leaves the DPP’s office in a bind: to recommend charges or not to recommend charges, is the question.  Congratulations to the police brass for that timely and sensible shovel pass (NFL) of an undesirable hot eddo.  Personally speaking, and again if accurate, I have serious issues with men who beat up women.  We have had more than enough of those in regular houses.  This is my version of slumming; that is, speaking to local issues.

Sincerely,

GHK Lall
