Learning Channel now accessible in Region Nine schools

Region Nine communities will now be able to access the Guyana Learning Channel (GLC) thanks to a Ministry of Education (MoE) initiative.

In a press release on Thursday, the MoE stated that the aim of the project is to improve the delivery of education and the learning experience of children across Guyana.

Accordingly, television sets have been placed in identified schools and will be powered by a solar panel system complete with batteries. A satellite dish completes the system, which will ensure that the GLC can be accessed. Student population size will determine the number of television sets that will be installed.

So far, the equipment has been installed at Aishalton Primary, Shea Primary, Kumu Primary, Kraudarnau Primary, Awarewarnau Primary, Maruranau Primary, and Annai Primary, all of which are located in Region Nine.

According to the MoE, the GLC has also installed similar equipment in Region Seven at Kamarang Primary and Kaikan Primary. The ministry says it intends replicate this initiative in all of the over 200 Amerindian communities across Guyana as part of the plans to expand the reach of the GLC. This will ensure that all students are able to benefit from a channel that is dedicated to airing timetabled educational content that aligns with the local curriculum for every grade.

In addition, the project aims to improve the level of blended learning within schools across the country, enabling teachers to employ a more audio-visual approach to teaching.
