COVID death toll rises by four

The Ministry of Health yesterday said that four more persons who tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) have died. This takes the total number of deaths from the pandemic to 243. The death toll has risen significantly in recent days.

The ministry said that the latest fatalities are two women, an 83-year-old and a 52-year- old from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica). Two males, also died, a 73-year-old from Region Six (East Berbice- Corentyne) and a 62-year- old from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica).

All four died while receiving care at the ministry’s medical facility.

Meanwhile, the ministry said yesterday that 40 new cases of the virus were reported and there are 12 persons in the intensive care unit.
