All systems are go for the highly anticipated National Novices Championship.

The green light was recently given by the COVID-19 Task Force to stage the event on May 29 at the Lichas Hall in Linden.

According to President of the Guyana Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation Inc. (GBBFFI), Keavon Bess, he received conditional approval on Monday to host the first fitness competition for 2021.

In the letter, it states that all safety measures should be observed and the event should be without a live audience.

Bess, an Attorney-at-Law, pointed out that the championship will be streamed live on all major platforms, adding that athletes, backstage personnel and the executive of the GBBFFI undertake to observe all COVID-19 protocols.

While on stage, athletes will be required to stand six feet apart from each other while  backstage athletes will be required to wear their masks and to maintain the mandatory physical distancing. Judges will be seated six feet from each other and will be required to wear masks.

The competing musclemen and women outfitted with six pack abs, well-defined quadriceps, sculpted arms and bikinis will be on full display as they battle for supremacy and the tag of Guyana’s top novice bodybuilder and fitness athlete.

This year’s event promises to be of a higher standard since many of the athletes have been through months of grueling contest prep.

When interviewed, the gladiators promised to bring their ‘A’ game to the stage.

According to organising secretary of the federation, Videsh Sookram “in excess of 25 athletes inclusive of three females will be on the stage displaying their physiques.”

Not only will some of the nation’s best physiques turn the stage into their battleground, but for just the seventh  time, the flourishing Men’s Physique segment is scheduled to highlight the event.

Sookram stated that nine Men’s Physique athletes along with 18 bodybuilders will be competing for honors and bragging rights.

Aesthetics, symmetry, muscularity, confidence and of course brightly coloured board shorts will be present.

Viewing fans can look forward to local hunks posing and flexing their V tapered physiques in a showdown of the ‘battle of the board shorts’.

Look for the guys to be dialed in, with their V-tapers and their robust stage personality.

Everybody wants to win, so you can be sure the whole field will ‘bring their best package’.
