A 53-year-old housewife of Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara, was on Tuesday afternoon robbed at gunpoint of her cellphone by a man attired in a Guyana Police Force uniform.
According to a police report, the woman was sitting on a chair in her yard speaking to her aunt on the phone when at about 3:55 pm, the man wearing a blue and black police uniform and armed with a handgun entered her yard.
The perpetrator approached the victim and demanded she hand over all of her valuables, during which time he also attempted to force her into the house but the woman resisted and a scuffle ensued between the two. The perpetrator then snatched the woman’s phone, a black Samsung Galaxy S9 cellphone valued at $160,000.
The man then made good his escape in a silver Nissan Bluebird car registered as number PTT 2987 which headed in a southerly direction.
The woman suffered a blow to her head with the handgun during the scuffle.
Three male suspects are currently in police custody.
