President of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA), Steve Ninvalle has been appointed the new Director of Sport, following a virtual meeting yesterday involving the Commissioners of the National Sports Commission (NSC) and Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson Jr.

Following the meeting, Chairman of the NSC, Kashif Muhammad, told Stabroek Sport that Ninvalle’s appointment was ‘unanimous’ and he was labeled as “the right man for the job”.

Said Muhammad “His name came up in the nominations and everyone unanimously decided that he was the right man for the job.”

Muhammad stated that Ninvalle’s appointment “Was based on his solid background in sports journalism and his outstanding performance as the head of the GBA.”

In his first invited comment since being confirmed as Director of Sport, the former Member of Parliament and Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, thanked the NSC and the Minister for having the confidence in him to take up the post which has been vacant since the last General Elections.

Ninvalle, who takes over the reins from Christopher Jones, added that for his tenure at the helm to be successful, there has to be an all hands on deck approach.

“It will take a team effort in order to further develop sport in Guyana and we will need all hands on deck. It won’t be a one-man show” he underscored.
