Four women die from COVID, 100 new cases recorded

Four women were yesterday reported as Guyana’s latest deaths as a result of COVID-19, while 100 new cases were recorded.

The Ministry of Health in a press release informed that the country’s total COVID-19 fatalities have increased to 582. The women were identified as a 34-year-old and 44-year-old, both from Region Three along with a 70- year-old and 71-year-old from Region Four. They all died on August 15 while receiving care at medical institutions.

The 100 new cases that were reported have increased the country’s total confirmed figure to 23,675. These came after some 2,010 more tests were done. The total number of tests done to date now stands at 246,894.

The highest number of new cases were reported in regions Four and Three with 66 and 13 new cases respectively. There are now 1,031 active cases, 91 of whom are in institutional isolation while 940 are in home isolation.

Twelve persons are currently patients at the COVID-19 intensive care unit while 51 more persons have recovered from the virus. The country’s total recovered cases have now risen to 22,050.
