A former police constable was on Friday asked to post $75,000 in bail for his release after he was charged with shooting a then colleague in the leg with his service weapon during a row over a missing pair of slippers.

Corinth Corbin, 22, of Silver Town, Linden, ap-peared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

He denied that on January 31, 2021, at Brickdam, Georgetown, he discharged a loaded firearm at Dewani Lampkin with the intent to maim, disfigure, disable, or cause grievous bodily harm.

It is alleged both parties, who were officers attached to the Brickdam Police Station, had a heated argument over a missing pair of slippers. The argument escalated and Corbin allegedly shot Lampkin to his leg.

The injured cop was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was treated. Meanwhile Corbin was placed on open arrest at the Technical Service Unit pending investigation.

Further, the man then went absent without official leave (AWOL) and was evading the police until earlier this week, when he was arrested at his Linden home.

The matter has been adjourned until March 11, 2022.
