Fifteenth annual Arokium Memorial cycling race pedals off Sunday in B/ce

The Flying Ace cycling club-organised Arokium Memorial road race is set to pedal off Sunday when the country’s premier wheelsmen take to the roadways of Berbice.

The 60-mile meet will see the riders pedaling off from 09.00 hours from the high bridge in front of the Arokium residence in New Amsterdam where they will head to the No. 43 bridge and back to Alexander Street, New Amsterdam for the finish.

The female and beginners, however, will start from Nand Persaud at No. 36 village on the Corentyne and head to the finish line for their 25-mile race.

Prizes will be awarded for the top six finishers along with the top four veterans and top three juniors, females and beginners. There will be 10 sprint prizes up for grabs.

According to coach and organiser, Randolph Roberts, the meet is expected to be chock filled with excitement as the race is open to all riders. Roberts thanked proprietor of Arokium Funeral Home, Pearl Arokium for their continued support of the sport and investment in developing the country’s wheelsmen.

A new champion will be crowned as reigning champion, Romello Crawford is out of the jurisdiction but the competition will be fierce as Andrew and David Hicks, Andre ‘Padlock’ Greene, Paul Denobrega, Curtis Dey, Alex Mendes, Christopher Griffith, Kemuel Moses, Junior Niles, Walter Grant Stuart, Mario Washington, Sherwin Sampson, Deeraj Ghabarran, Geron Williams are all expected to be on show.
