Monedderlust sealed their berth to the final in the 592 ‘Skills for Cash’ 7-aside Knockout football competition,  defeating fierce rival Rosignol United 2-1 Sunday at the Rosignol Community ground, West Coast Berbice.

The 60-minute affair was witnessed by the largest crowd to date in the event. Despite having the home support, Rosignol fell behind in the 11th minute, as national player Kevin Cottoy broke the deadlock.

The speedy winger completed a tidy midfield buildup by the visitors, as a cross into the penalty area, was slammed into the back of the net from inside the penalty box.

Monedderlust doubled their advantage in the 31st minute, as Akeemo Watts made his presence felt. An error in the defensive line led to the conversion, as miscommunication between the goalkeeper and defender following an initial shot, led to a partial collision, allowing Watts to tuck his effort unchallenged into the back of the net. Rosignol eventually pulled one back under fortuitous circumstances in the 45th minute, as Stephon Moore recorded an unfortunate own goal.

The unfortunate episode transpired as a cross into the area was inadvertently directed into the back of the net by Moore in his attempt to thwart the danger.

Nonetheless, the visitors held off the offensive efforts of the hosts to seal the victory, and their place in the final.

With the win, Monedderlust will now face off with Melanie in the final on Friday at the No. #5 Community ground. Melanie defeated Golden Grove 3-1 in the other semi-final fixture.

The losing semi-finalists will match skills in the third-place playoff.

The resulting tournament victor will receive $300,000, whilst the second, third and fourth place finishers will pocket $200,000, $100,000, and $50,000 respectively.
