The encamped boxers are now shifting into competition mode ahead of the Winfield Braithwaite Caribbean Schoolboys and Juniors tournament.

This is according to Team Manager and Assistant Secretary/Treasurer of the Guyana Boxing Associations, Seon Bristol.

Bristol told this publication yesterday that the 17 pugilists will wrap up their final training sessions today and then turn their attention to competing at their optimum during the three-day fixture which boxes off tomorrow at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall in Georgetown.

“Everything is in place, they had a great camp, their meals, their training leading up to the tournament and they will now be shifting into competition mode.” He added “They are ready to go.”

The combatants will face rivals from The Bahamas, St Lucia, and Trinidad and Tobago. Bell time is set for 18.00 hours nightly.

Quizzed on how he envisions the boxers will perform during the event, the veteran boxing administrator and promoter responded that he expects them to “bring their ‘A’ game.” Team Guyana have been victors of the event ever since it started five years ago. Bristol expects the winning streak to continue.

The boxers representing Guyana are as follows:

Shawn Sabola, Matthew Thomas, Travis Sancho, Joshua Thambaran, Arlington Johnson, Jahuan Haniff, Markel Blue, Garvel Hyman, Malachi Greenidge, Tequan Sampson, Seon Graham ,Shaquan James, Dwayne Baptiste, Eon Bancroft Jnr, Kendel Dominic, Jeremiah Duncan, and Yusdiel Gala.

Meanwhile, the St Lucian duo of lightweight, Herve Charlemagne, 14, and middleweight, Kevert Similien, 17, arrived on local shores yesterday to compete.
