The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Refereeing Department successfully conducted a FIFA Member Association training course for several officials at the National Training Centre, Providence, East Bank Demerara, according to a release from the federation.

It was also stated that the five-day course, which was spearheaded by FIFA Referee Development Officer, Javier Santos, comprised theoretical and practical sessions.

“We have seen a very good attitude from the referees. They were very enthusiastic. Every time we visit this country, we have seen a good improvement,” Santos remarked.

And GFF Executive Committee Member, Dion Inniss noted, “Training is important – it is ongoing and it never stops. We always have to be reminded of the fundamentals and the foundations of what we do.”

Meanwhile, first-time attendee and assistant referee from Region Seven, Selena Persaud, said that the course was very informative, adding, “I’ve learned a lot, as everyone did. It has shown me that there is room for improvement, and it was a great experience.”
