A family of eight is now homeless after a fire, suspected to be an act of arson, gutted their Parika Façade, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) home on Friday morning.

The Guyana Fire Service (GFS) yesterday said the blaze started around 09.44hrs at Lot 779 Parika Façade, EBE.

The two-storey wooden and concrete structure is owned by 39-year-old Joshua Campbell. He along with his family of seven occupied the house.

In a press release yesterday, the GFS said after they received a call one water tender and crew from the Leonora Fire Station responded to the scene.

“…..One jet working from the original tank supply aided by a light pump working from an open water source were used to extinguish the fire,” the GFS said.

Due to the radiated heat, the GFS said several louvre glass panes from a neighbouring house at Lot 781 Parika Façade, EBE which is owned by 31-year-old Derrick Bhagwat were  destroyed.
