Defending champion Wismar/Christianburg, 8th of May, Cummings Lodge and St. Stanislaus secured wins when the 9th Milo Secondary Schools U18 Football Championship resumed yesterday at the Ministry of Education ground on Carifesta Avenue.

Wismar/Christianburg slammed West Demerara 5-0. Kelvin Hintzen tallied a brace in the 13th and 20th minute whilst Kristian Lewis recorded conversions in the 40th and 56th minute. Supporting with a goal in the 47th minute was Amani King.

Similarly, 8th of May crushed Vryman’s Erven 7-3. A trio of doubles were recorded by DeAngelo Davidson (10th and 15th), Sachel Marks (38th and 50th) and Simeon Douglas (20th and 52nd) in the lopsided result. Adding a goal in the 60th minute was Leon Farrell.

For Vryman’s Erven, Akeem Hosannah scored twice in the 17th and 57th minute, whilst Joshua Dougall added a goal in the 55th minute.

Meanwhile, Cummings Lodge defeated St. Cuthbert’s Mission 2-1. Keyshawn Millington and Duquan Thom scored in the 22nd and 47th minute respectively. For the losers, Eyon Simon netted in the 24th minute.

Also, St. Stanislaus squeaked past Dolphin Secondary 2-1. Omarie Nelson and LeBron James recorded goals in the 17th and 45th minute respectively. For the loser, Cadwell Peters netted in the 20th minute.

The event will continue today at the same venue with another round of matches. At 11:00hrs, Santa Rosa will oppose New Amsterdam whilst Charity will tackle New Central from 12:45hrs.

In the third fixture, Mackenzie High will engage President’s College from 14:00hrs, with Vergenoegen opposing West Ruimveldt at 15:45hrs in the final fixture.

The event will feature 32 teams competing in an initial group stage format comprising eight groups of four. The top two finishers from each pool will advance to the round of 16 stage.

The winner of the event will pocket $300,000 towards a school project and the championship trophy, with the second, third, and fourth place finishers walking away with $200,000, $100,000, and $75,000 respectively for a school initiative and the corresponding accolade.
