A 46-year-old woman was yesterday found dead in a room at Alpha Hotel, Lot 2 Public Road Ogle, East Coast Demerara with 13 stab wounds and a slashed neck.
Kim Halley, a businesswoman and mother of three children, of Lamaha Park, Georgetown, was murdered, allegedly by her husband Junior Halley, a 50-year-old businessman of Mahaicony, who has since been arrested and is at the Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters assisting with investigations.
According to reports, the Halleys checked into the hotel around 13:45 hrs and were given room 235. Around 14:30 hrs, hotel staff said they heard screams coming from the room. Approximately 15 minutes later, the man left the hotel. Staff then discovered the door to the room ajar and found the woman lying motionless on the bed, facing upwards and partially clothed, a police press release stated. A report was made to the police. EMTs were summoned, and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said Kim Halley had sustained 13 stab wounds to her face, hands and body and a wound to her neck. The bed was soaked in blood. A knife handle without a blade was next to her body on the bed. The blade was subsequently found in her hair, covered in blood, police said.
Kim Halley’s sister Gale Harris told Stabroek News that her brother-in-law, while condemning violence against women and war, as a result of which she had held great respect for him, turned out to be abusive to her sister. Harris added that her sister relocated to Georgetown two months ago, because of the abuse and had promised to visit her yesterday.
She was devastated when she received the call about her sister’s murder.
“When I hear this man kill meh sister I was watering meh plants. She was to come by me today, I make 2 pounds black cake yesterday and she come to collect it; time like this. That was when I see me sister last night. She was to come back today. She seh meh sister meh guh see yuh back meh guh come tomorrow. She give meh one hug. How me guh know that ah me last time me guh hug me sister? We never know this is what this man would have done to we sister. She was stabbed so many times and she throat slit, oh my God,” Harris lamented.
Kim Halley’s body is at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
