Demerara dethrones Berbice for first girls U19 title

Tileya Madramootoo Friday batted Demerara to the Guyana Cricket Board U19 T20 title.

Playing against the defending champions in a virtual final, Demerara, led  by an unbeaten innings of 19 by Madramootoo, romped to a nine-wicket win.

Batting first Berbice 58 could only muster all out in 16.2 overs with extras contributing a whopping 20 runs while  Tamara George was the only batter to reach double figures.

Emalissa Whyte 3-12, Tamica Simon 3-19, Chelsea Latiff 2-21 were the principal wicket takers for Demerara.

In reply, Demerara reached  the target of 59-1 in 14.5 overs with Madramootoo 19 not out and Sara Amin 12 not out. 

Earlier in the day, Madramootoo top scored with a half century (52 not out)   as Demerara defeated Essequibo.

Batting first Essequibo reached Essequibo 126-3 off  of their  allotted 20 overs with Aliah 23 and Cianna Retemiah 21 th main contributors. Extras contributed 52. Bowling for Demerara, Emilyssa Whyte had 2-21.

Demerara in reply, reached 127-2 with Madramootoo top scoring with 52 retired hurt. Sarah Amin supported with 26.

The GCB is expected to name the Guyana girls under-19 team shortly which will participate in the CWI girls under-19 Regional Super50 in Trinidad and Tobago next month.
