Rupununi wins National Inter-District Kayaking Competition

Rupununi emerged as the winner of the National Inter-District Kayaking Competition, which was staged on Sunday at the Watooka Guest House, Linden.

The District 9 outfit overcame the challenge of Essequibo/Pomeroon [District 2], and home side Upper Demerara/Kwakwani [District 10] to capture the coveted title and $200,000 in the burgeoning discipline. On the other hand, Essequibo/Pomeroon and Demerara/Kwakwani finished in second and third place respectively.

All 15 districts participated in the competition. The other competitors were North West, West Demerara, East Coast Demerara, West Coast Berbice, Corentyne, Bartica, Potaro/Siparuni, North Georgetown, East Georgetown, South Georgetown, East Bank Demerara, and New Amsterdam. Each team comprised eight [four male and female] participants.
